Store is open.....Come on in and out to markets!!!!!!

Dear Friends,

Hope this email finds you all doing well!

So this week I want to talk a little bit about our feeding practices and farm.

Here of late we have had quite a few inquiries about the volume that we grow and sell, how much we have grown as a business and how do we source and manage our feed supply so I wanted to touch on that here for a bit…..

First and foremost we are still very much a small family run farm. All of us still work hands on day in and out to manage and keep our farm running. We have had to expand into a few more locations than we have been in the past but we are basically still producing product at roughly the same level we were 3 or 4 years ago when we reached our peak levels for the land we own and manage. Our ability to reach our sales goals in 2 or 3 markets has become more and more difficult over the last few seasons due to the opening of quite a few community markets so we have had to go out into more locations to keep the same level of sales. We’re getting bigger only in the sense of locations to buy. Rest assured we are still here day in and day out providing hands on management and care for all of the products we raise and bring to market.

As to the feed sourcing we are using only certified naturally grown approved feeds and amendments. These standards parallel the USDA certified organic program and are USDA compliant. In past seasons we have purchased both local non-soy and non gmo feeds and regional certified organic feeds. We have always made an effort to insure that the feeds we use are the best and cleanest we can get so to further that tradition, we are, once again, partnering up with Coyote Creek feeds to provide our 2017 certified organic feed. They now have a distribution facility that is only 2 hours away so it will make for a GREAT partnership!! If you have any questions about the feed please feel free to e-mail us @ theheritagefarm.info@gmail.com

Lastly please know that we will always endeavor to not just solicit your business but to earn it!! We want to be the farmer that you know and be transparent in our practices and products. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions, compliments or concerns……

That’s all for this week…Make sure and check out the facebook page Here to see current photos and tidbits and don’t forget to check out the menu below for this weeks ordering!!! We love ya and we need ya!!

Have a delicious week!!

Sincerely,
Greg, Lainya and the Hutchins Family

Store is Open....Raw milk back on the menu!!!!

Dear Friends,

Hope this email finds you all doing well.

Our big announcement for this week is that RAW MILK is now available again through our online store and farm truck!!! We have partnered with Country Gardens to make their delicious milk available to our customers. Joe Cunningham and his family milk a herd of Jersey girls on pasture based and grass fed diet and they also supplement a non-soy, non-gmo feed as we did. If you are excited to have this milk come back to our delivery areas please show your support by signing up to buy some today!! Because of the logistics we need to give Joe and his family a decent weekly order to keep them coming back so lets show them some love for the raw milk!!
p.s..word also has it we may be in line for some raw cream and butter shortly.

We had another productive and exciting week here this week and are looking forward to more continued progress in the beds and produce areas. Friday we welcomed our new produce and garden manager, Krista Slavik. She comes to us with and extensive background in herbals, medicinals, wild forage and sustainability skills and we feel she is going to be a huge asset to the farm and our produce operations. We are getting her acclimated to the farm and our community and will share more about her soon. She will be joining us in the market booths and on the farm truck as well so swing by and say hello if you get a chance.

Last week we mentioned to you about the continuing advancement of the GMO and big Ag agenda with the new addition of 3 new GMO potato strains. I heard a few folks say that its not that big a deal but I disagree wholeheartedly. A couple of the main problems with the GMO strains is a)your body does not recognize them because they are not from the natural created order. Often times this leads to problems for your perfectly balanced bodies in figuring out what to do with them so they can lead to CHRONIC illness over the long haul and b)they are manufactured, trademarked and patented which means they are most often controlled by corporate entities strictly for profit. We are already seeing this disastrous food model in play with the corn, wheat and other commodity products in our country. Left unabated and unchecked corporations could one day control all the seeds and seed strains and then they would get to decide what can be farmed and what can’t….It’s bad enough now with all the lies and untruths in the labeling and marketing they do…we need to remain diligent in fighting against the proliferation of the GMO food chain. Its disastrous at best!! Read more about it here….

Our CSA sales will remain open a few more weeks until we fill the rest of the slots. We will HAVE to close them for the Spring/Summer 2017 season shortly though so if you’re interested please order soon.

Weblog Entry

Dear Friends,

Hope this email finds you all doing well.

It’s been a very nice and productive week here at the farm. We have continued our planting and preparation for the spring season. This week we planted arugula, 3 kinds of kale, tatsoi, beets, radishes, leeks, parsnips and carrots. We also were able to harvest, from our over wintered crops, salad mix, braising mix, carrots, beets, collards, kale and broccoli.

We spent a large portion of yesterday plowing more beds and moving the laying hens to a new grazing and roaming area so they can continue to thrive. We have a whole new batch of 250 laying hens and we gathered our first of the season eggs yesterday!!! Hopefully this new batch of girls will give us an ample bounty throughout 2017!!

The CSA sales will remain open a few more weeks until we fill the rest of the slots. There have been quite a few people express disappointment that we closed them out before the tax refunds came in for a lot of folks so we, as is our custom, are responding to your request! We are honored that you would spend your money with us for good food done right so please order away!!! We will HAVE to close them for the Spring/Summer 2017 season shortly though so if you’re interested please order soon.

I did not have time to do a whole lot of research for newsworthy items for this weeks newletter but there are a few things I want to mention that I’m looking at for next week:

  • Whole Foods was in the news again about imported and processed produce from China that has not been certified or inspected but is labeled as such…I’m gonna dig into this a little more
  • The Idaho potato industry announced that the FDA (Federal Deception Agency) has approved 3 new genetically modified potato seeds for their MASSIVE industry. Look for ALL your commercial potatoes to go the way of corn in the next few years!!!
  • An independent test of Subway’s chicken filet and strips revealed that the DNA of the chicken samples was only 53% chicken!!! The rest was GMO’s, soy, fillers and chemicals!!!What a rip off. These are the same kind of games and results a lot if the commercial and industrial food system will offer. One more VERY good reason to shop local and support your small farmer. If we go away crooks like this are all that will be left.

With all the despair of fillers, modifiers and junk in our food and health system I do want to point out one shining star of purity in our home. Lainya (she’d be the farmers wife) has started to represent Young Living as an independent representative. We have been using a lot of their products in our household for a while now and the results have been so good that she has started to work directly with them as a representative and team builder. We are now offering a selection of their products on the online store with, I am told, more to come. You owe it to yourself to give these wonderful products a try and if you are interested in more of the oils and opportunities of Young Living email Lainya directly @ Lainya Hutchins

This Week From The Farm....Store is open

Dear Friends,

Hope this email finds you all doing well.

We have had a whirlwind week here at the farm with all the seeding, rowing, transplants and what not getting ready to go into the ground for spring harvest!! Spent the afternoon yesterday plowing, harrowing and laying out spring beds. The weather has sure been nice and keeps hinting at an early spring but we have been here before and are doing our best to keep ourselves in check and from, as my dad used to say, “chomping at the bit to get started”!! We know all too well that old man winter may not be done with us yet!

That said though we do have some really nice items already started in the protected nook of our propagation house and are looking to direct seed some early crops next week. Our hope and prayer is that the groundhog was wrong this year and spring is indeed in the air!

We also wanted to let you know that, by popular demand, we have re-opened our CSA sales for a few more weeks headed into spring.

We were also asked to provide some specific and concrete examples of the problem for consumers with organic factory farmed items. So here is a clear example… Simple Truth Organic Chicken . They have an organic product line that many consumers buy thinking they are chickens raised on a quaint family farm because they are organic when the truth is they are industrially raised in an inhumane, nasty and overcrowded chicken house. The only thing that keeps them organic is that they get organic feed and some USDA bureaucrat is stamping their paperwork once a year to say they are compliant with the program. Even though 99%of the birds NEVER see a speck of sunshine or outdoor time at all!! To me (and I admit I am simple minded person) that should not be allowed to be labeled as organic….period! If you think the certification by USDA should protect you then take a look at these 2 links…One is the code of regulations for synthetic usage (as in non-organic) in food and the other is the list of EPA inert ingredients allowed under the aforementioned CFR code. Some of the EPA items are obviously harmless but good Lord!!!…try to figure out what they are allowed to do and not allowed to do and you will see what its NO WONDER most Americans have NO clue whats really in their food!!!

Code of Federal Regulations

EPA approved inert ingredients
